ABOUT LA CRUZ

Meet your hosts, the La Cruz Foxes…

Our family fell in love with La Cruz and its residents and we think you will too :)

‘Zorro’ means fox in Spanish, and ‘Zorrito’ is a little fox.

We are a team of brothers/sisters & husbands/wives: Gregg & Rita, Bernadette & Mark, and Alyssa, Sawyer & Paul (pictured at one of our favorite restaurants in La Cruz, La Cata Del Mar).

Our families live in California and Minnesota and enjoy the Nayarit area regularly.

About La Cruz

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is a very quaint Mexican town, located in the state of Nayarit, just 30 minutes North of Puerto Vallarta (in the Bay of Banderas, Pacific). There’s a local population of about 1,700 which doubles in high season, Nov-Apr.

We love this town because it’s a wonderful mix of locals and conscientious tourists (mostly Canadian and American) who appreciate the tight-knit community vibe here. It’s safe to walk around and you don’t need a car to enjoy the town!

  • There’s a large marina that attracts international adventurers (where you can book sailing or fishing excursions).

  • We also appreciate the daily bustling fish market where you can buy the freshest fish in the bay!

  • From Nov-April, La Cruz has a very popular “Sunday Market” where you can find lots of local crafts and really great food vendors.

  • La Cruz has many food establishments including, very affordable (and tasty!) taco stands, seafood restaurants, Italian fare, modern cuisine, sushi, pizza, beach bar food, etc. There’s also lots of live music at night in the bars around town (within walking distance but not within earshot).

  • In the late Fall and Winter, hundreds of humpback whales enter the bay to birth their calves–you can spot the whales from our rooftop decks or join a whale-watching tour! There’s a large pod of bottlenose dolphins that live in the bay year-round.

  • There are two main beaches in town: the “quiet” beach (1 block from our property) which is perfect for walking, swimming, and paddleboarding, and there is also the “Manzanilla” beach which has beach bars, lounge chairs, services, etc.
